This past weekend was held the Mugen Challenge at LCRC raceway in Oakland Mills, Pennsylvania. It was a three day event with 250 entrees. HB Racing’s junior team drivers, 12 year old Austin Weeks and 10 year old Cooper Phillips attended the event.

Friday was practice. Austin would get his d817 dialed in by the end of the day. Phillips, not able to arrive for practice on Friday, would only get a limited amount of time Saturday morning before qualifying. Even with limited practice, he was extremely happy with both his E817 and D817. During Qualifying. Austin would show the way Top qualifying Nitro Intermediate Buggy. Cooper would hold 3rd for most of the event in Nitro Buggy until the last rd falling to 4th.

In Ebuggy. Phillips would end up 9th after some bad luck with traffic in all of his qualifiers. In the Nitro Buggy main event. Austin, 2nd place and Phillips would battle for the first part of the race. Austin would eventually pull away taking the win. Phillips would battle with 2nd for half of the event and end up 3rd on the podium.

In Ebuggy. Phillips would not have the same luck in the nitro class. Getting tangled at the start and almost a lap down on lap 1. He would put his head down and come back to battle with 5-7th place. After the dust had settled Phillips ended up 10th.
