There’s an old axiom that states tires are the most important part of setup. Whether you race or rock crawl, this statement is profoundly true, and it’s just as true if your rig is tasked to do both–as in rock racing. To fill the unique demands of rock racing, Pro-Line has a new tire, just for this segment, called the Hyrax Rock Terrain Truck Tire.
As indicated in the full name, the tire is molded in Pro-Line G8 compound. The Hyrax features what Pro-Line describes as “an aggressive and open tread pattern with each tread block containing multiple sipes.” The sipes should increase tire flex and the number of edges biting into the terrain. The stepped design also increases edges.
The Hyrax is 5.75″ tall and 2.15″ wide. For comparison sake, the stock BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tires included with Axial Racing’s RR10 Bomber are 5.43″ tall and 1.89″ wide. Open cell foam inserts are included.
An interesting fun fact about the Hyrax name is a hyrax is a rodent in Africa nicknamed the rock rabbit.
